Mutantkind is facing its most challenging test of all now. With the Registration Act firmly in place, some in the government have become frightened by the mere number of mutants that have come forward. Moreso, the powers that have become revealed have solidified the fear that mutants could one day force humankind into subservience. In desperation, the government has appointed a group specifically targeted at silently eliminating the mutant threat. This group, known as The Oath, has already shown their handiwork, with bloody and fatal results.

In the midst of the growing fear, a new alliance has forged. Working both in tandem and against the very government that created it, Weapon X is stepping up its research in an effort to create the 'perfect mutant soldiers'. As the mutants become harder and harder to find, Weapon X has turned to a particular group to harvest blood and subjects for their terrible experiments. This group is known as the Hellfire Club. Devoted to influencing the world's events, the Hellfire Club supplies 'weaker' subjects as well as pints of their own blood to further Weapon X's research. This fearful alliance has borne terrible fruit, and the true goals of both parties could result in far-reaching agony.
